Background of the Study

Menstrual hygiene management (MHM) is a critical aspect of women's health that is often overlooked in many regions of Nigeria. Poor menstrual hygiene practices can lead to infections, social stigma, and significant psychological distress, especially among young girls and women in rural areas (Okeke et al., 2023). In Kano State, a large population of women and girls face challenges regarding access to sanitary products, proper hygiene facilities, and comprehensive education on menstrual health.

Reproductive health education is essential in providing women and girls with the knowledge and resources to manage their menstrual health effectively. Nurses play a vital role in educating women on MHM, but their involvement and the effectiveness of such educational interventions have not been sufficiently explored at State Specialist Hospital, Kano. This study seeks to examine the impact of reproductive health education on menstrual hygiene practices among women attending the hospital and evaluate whether these educational initiatives lead to improved hygiene and health outcomes.

Statement of the Problem

Inadequate menstrual hygiene management among women in Kano State, particularly in rural areas, remains a public health concern. Despite the existence of reproductive health education programs, there is limited understanding of their impact on menstrual hygiene practices. This study will evaluate the role of reproductive health education in improving menstrual hygiene management at State Specialist Hospital, Kano.

Objectives of the Study

1. To assess the impact of reproductive health education on menstrual hygiene practices among women in Kano State.

2. To evaluate nurses' role in educating women on menstrual hygiene management at State Specialist Hospital, Kano.

2. How effective are nurses in educating women on menstrual hygiene management?

3. What are the barriers to improving menstrual hygiene despite reproductive health education?

Research Hypotheses

1. Reproductive health education significantly improves menstrual hygiene practices among women in Kano State.

2. Nurses play a crucial role in improving menstrual hygiene practices through effective education.

3. Cultural and socioeconomic factors hinder the effectiveness of reproductive health education on menstrual hygiene management.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
